Today, we played a great QB. And we gave up some yards, 1 downs, and points.
But we also got some stops. Like, 4-5 stops to limit Rivers' productivity.
Against a great QB, that is called Job Done. You cannot expect to totally shut down a guy like Rivers with a vet TE. You can't cover every inch of the field, and he will A] see open spots and B] throw accurate darts. He'll also avoid the rush adroitly. It will not look like the AZ game did.
Given all of that … if you can make a few key stops and limit the points, you have a chance to get on top of the game and stay there.
Now, LAC did NOT get those stops against us. We made plays to put 35 on the board. Even that blocked punt after the pick was set up by the O leaving the ball on the 1.
Going into the game, both teams had the same defensive goal: get stops and limit the points. We did it and they didn't. And that's what decides games like this.
4-5 key stops. That's the game.
[Had to edit the B item above. Damn emojis.]
