Goff is not really a 'worry' of mine... but there ARE things about him that are nagging me.
Right now I see a 'kid' out there who really isn't a 'leader' yet. In my definition of leader I include this: A guy who can take the team on his shoulders and carry them across the goalline. I don't see that in Goff... YET!
I know Goff, right now, can get us to the playoffs.... perhaps a playoff win... but an NFC Championship? I dunno... maybe... right now I'd say if he's scalding hot yes... but anything less than that probably not... UNLESS, and this is possible, the rest of the NFC teams falter as well, But that's unlikely. Rodgers, Brees, Cousins all faltering?
He's got nearly an entire season, however, to become exactly what I 'think', NOT know, he's lacking... and so far I think he's at minimum on the curve and mostly likely a little ahead of it. - JamesJM
Goff can improve his game in many areas, and that's only because he's young and unseasoned. But that's said about a guy who is also (everyone agrees) doing well overall.
There's only one place where I need to see him (and Rams) get dramatically better. And that's in some combination of playing against top defenses and/or playing in clutch/comeback situations.
And on that I just am waiting for him (and them) to turn a corner.
In terms of leadership?: I am just the opposite of you. Personally I have no concerns about that at all. I think he is who he is as a personality and that his team responds to it and has all kinds of faith in him. I dont think what counts as leadership for a Goff type would be all that visible in a highlight reel way on the field. I don't think fans will see it but I think it's there. It's quiet confidence, unflappability, and just being solid and grounded and trustworthy and very "in the moment" on the field.
