Despite the best interior OL in the league, Lynch had 11 carries for 41 yards with a long of only 10. So no huge gashing running plays. If the Rams' hold David Johnson to twice that next week they will have done well. ...
Gurley had 5 touches in the first half. That's fine if the passing game is firing, but when it is sputtering like it did in the firt half, they need to feed him. ...
The big 3 on the DL didn't generate a ton of pressure, but they did OK considering they were up against the best interior line in football.
No time today, but I want to write up some thoughts on McVay's play calling. IMO, it was brilliant. Not everything clicked in the 1st half, but the things that missed were just a hair off and OAK had the ball the whole half.
For now, what impressed the hell out of me was his masterful rhythm in play calling. He was orchestrating, man. Each play fit into the flow and kept pushing the OAK defense into uncertainty. It all came into fruition as they masterfully killed the game with long drives in the 2nd half. But from the very beginning, play sequences set each other up.
And don't forget that we ANSWERED OAK's scores pretty promptly. We gave up that opening TD (bad) and then I think we had 1 3 and out. Then we moved downfield briskly and evened the score. I personally think the play calls in that 1st Q were really good, especially after the 1st drive. Anyway, more on this later in the week, I hope.
Now, as for defense, you make excellent points. The stats are actually very good, though we missed chances to get off the field. I would simply note, however, that our DL performance must be measured with attention to the holding calls they drew. Those are almost as good as sacks, and when you have that many, you know the OL is getting beat. And this is reportedly one of the best OLs in the league!
