Ok.......I'll take that with AD..... 6 more years would be perfect for a DT.

But he's not a DT. He's a "best defender." I'm Sorry smiley

lol...he IS a DT no matter how people try and "twist" it. Von Miller IS a LB too. They may be the best at their positions but they are what they are. This BEST DEFENDER stuff is silly.

Is Aaron Rodgers the BEST OFFENDER? lol No! He is still a QB!! IMO, No need to create new titles just because someone is great at what they do.

It's a real thing. People who follow this stuff know that. People who regularly write about this stuff are very clear about it working that way.

The whole point of the "best defender" category is precisely to create a designation for elite defenders who get contracts that compare to quarterbacks. That's why it exists.

It's also why Watt, Suh, and Von Miller all got around 80% of what the top qb that year was getting. Meanwhile everyone gets that qbs get more than WRs, RBs, and OL, so you only have to call them "qbs." cool smiley

It;s also why every single one of those players got more than (respectively) even the highest paid 3/4 DEs, DTs. and OLBs were getting at the time.

One possible (real) counterargument would be to find a quote where the Rams state that they will pay Donald as a top DT. Or you can do a google search for the terms "Von Miller" and "Donald" and see how many times they are both mentioned in articles about Donald's contract. Doesn't mean the writers think they play the same position. Just as the Rams not talking about Donald getting paid as a top DT doesn't mean they don 't know he plays 3-tech DT. It's that they know for an elite player of his caliber, what position he plays and what kind of contract he gets are 2 different things (same with Watt and Von Miller). The Rams are of course smart enough to sort that out.

A similar thing happened with Gurley. He did not get a standard RB contract. Leaving the one tagged player out of it, his contract is nearly double the nearest RB contract. The minute that happened, good analysts all around sports media pointed out it was acknowledging a new category (one that has no name yet)--the big superback who can run and catch and play all 3 downs. Immediately people were saying that guys like Elliott and Johnson would benefit from what the Rams did with Gurley.
