I heard that story. Pure conjecture. Kraft is too smart to give up something of high value for much lower value. My bet is that they thought JimmyG was worth not much more than a 2nd round pick. If they thought he was a top tier QB, which means worth at least 2 first round picks, they aren’t giving up that capital.
I don't think it has anything to do with smart one way or another. Earlier they turned down a 1st rounder for him but then internal politics heated up and Kraft wanted it done so they took a 2nd rounder.
