My take on this is that Wade builds his defense around what his best player or players do. He's not bound to a dogmatic system. And that he would be negligent if he did not build it to take advantage of AD's strengths. (And in face he DOES do that.) Besides, a 3-tech in a 1-gap 3/4 is just not that different from a 3-tech in a 1-gap 4/3, so there's nothing in AD's situation in Wade's defense that would make him a bad fit or any of that. He's set up to excel and does.
AND I think the elite interior rusher has more value than an edge rusher. For 2 reasons.
* lots of things out there indicate that the interior rush is seen as being more crucial right now because offenses have moved toward quick, short passing games to nullify the outside rush, and the way to counter that is to blow up the middle of the offense as quickly as possible with the interior rush
* good edge rushers are far, far, FAR more common than elite interior rushers. So the formula works this way. If you have an elite interior pass rusher, you keep him, and then add a good edge rusher. That way yer sittin pretty. But you CAN'T do it the other way around. You can't get a good to great edge rusher and then find an elite interior rusher to pair him with. There are just never enough elite DTs on the planet at any given time to do it that way. So if you have the elite DT already, you build around that, and no matter what you build, if you have an elite DT as part of the mix, it will be better than anything you could build without one of those.
