Honestly, he said NOTHING I didn't already know. NOTHING.
I guess its nice to have a national guy (thats what he is, right?) go away with a good review of our team. <Yawn>
Yeah he did.
Look back.
I did. Nothing new for me.
First, this is not an information piece, it's an experience narrative where the writer gives impressions of what he sees, and in that sense it's good that yet another outsider sees how the Rams are doing and confirms impressions. It's not informational reporting. So the first thing is, you have to read it right. And a camp report confirming many things with fresh eyes has value in its own right.
Second, here's a list of things no other writer or camp reporter mentioned or could have said:
* he has visited many camps but this time he saw a "uniquely competitive practice." Only someone attending several TC practices of other teams is in a position to say that
* Rams TC practices are very situation oriented and you see "lots of game scenarios," which again is a comparative comment coming from someone who has seen several TC practices around the league. This comes out again when he says "this training camp has featured less position work and more one-on-one game scenarios." Again, that's someone who has seen several and is in a position to compare.
* he says "the collective presence of the newcomers seems to bring out the best in two guys on the brink of stardom: safeties John Johnson III and Lamarcus Joyner.:" Good to know.
* McVay asked Waldron to call the plays this time so it more a competitive (as head coach McV knows the D too well for that)
* No other team has done the fake halftime thing
The rest is not aimed at Rams fans. He's not writing in an LA venue for Rams regulars. That's not his audience. His audience is football fans in general, most of whom have no idea about some of those things. Given that it's interesting to see what he confirms about the Rams to the rest of the NFL.
