I am concerned that McVay refusing to play his 1's at all sends a message to the team that they should fear getting injured, that the game isn't worth anything, and thus they should play mainly not to get hurt. Forget actual performance.

In fact, I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing. I kinda tiptoed around the edges about this in my own post, but I think you nailed it. That’s my fear, anyway.
Hope McVay comes to the same conclusion and writes this off as a “learning experience”.
