I understand that if one team's 1's, at home, are playing against another teams 2's and 3's, on the road, the result is largely what we saw last night.
But neither did I see much competitive fire from the Rams and that bothered me.
I am concerned that McVay refusing to play his 1's at all sends a message to the team that they should fear getting injured, that the game isn't worth anything, and thus they should play mainly not to get hurt. Forget actual performance.
I suspect that might be too strong, but that's how I felt about it.
As for individual players: Mannion looked exactly like some posters on this board posted about his play at training camp; it sucks. He was slow on his decisions and delivery, and when he did have time he wasn't accurate. Frankly, he looks exactly like the Mannion that played for Fisher. I don't think he's developed very much. Allen, to me, looked much better.
However I still don't like the idea of the Rams not having a veteran back-up that has started a number of NFL games reasonably successfully. I'd rather have an old guy who knows how to run an offense, how to read a D, and how to react in real game conditions.
I also don't understand what McVay sees in Hemmingway. He looks awkward and stands about a 50/50 chance of catching a ball.
Liked what I saw from Justin Davis and Kelly. Like the way Kizer laid the wood a few times. Josh Reynolds seemed to be able to get open a lot, but had trouble catching the ball. Ekuban's speed is noticeable. I liked the way our secondary competed.
Unimpressed with our Dline and Oline in general, but I get it about who was playing and how they moved guys around.
Daryl Williams has NO chance of handling a speed rusher.
My guess is that McVay was not happy no matter what he said for public viewing. I suspect we'll see the 1st team next week and much better play all around after a week of dealing with an unhappy HC that got embarrassed last night (or at least should have been embarrassed, preseason or not).
