Rams crack top 5 in latest training camp power rankings

After a headline-grabbing offseason, the Los Angeles Rams are among the favorites to win it all in 2018. They have a star-studded defense, an offense loaded with talent at every position and a head coach that’s taken the league by storm with his offensive creativity.

As a result, they’ve been pegged as Super Bowl contenders by everyone from analysts to Vegas to fans. In USA TODAY’s latest power rankings, that sentiment holds true. The Rams came in at No. 5, behind only the top-ranked Eagles, Patriots, Falcons and Vikings.

Early to worry (much) about Aaron Donald given last year’s holdout didn’t ultimately hurt. Still, lot of moving parts on revamped defense.

As evidenced by these rankings, the NFC is loaded. The Patriots are the only AFC team in the top seven, though teams 8-12 all represent the AFC. The Rams will have a tough path to Atlanta if they want to play in Super Bowl LIII, even though the NFC West is hardly the powerhouse it once was when Seattle and San Francisco were at their peaks.

Speaking of the Rams’ division, the 49ers are the next-highest team from the West at No. 20. The Cardinals check in at No. 21, while Seattle is all the way down at No. 27.

The Rams are the clear favorites in the division and winning 12 or 13 games isn’t out of the question. They just have to translate wins on paper to wins on the field.
