But I have to say that the Cooks and Gurley stuff flew under the radar and went through smoothly and (relatively) quickly, to the apparent satisfaction of everyone.

Someone warned posters in another thread about 3 or 4 days ago that we would "faint" when we saw Goff's next deal.

I suspect, and it's just my opinion, that when the time comes, Goff's deal with get done with no muss and no fuss, just like Cooks and Gurley.
I just don't see him trying to push the envelope.

It will. Push the envelope. But through clear progressions. Carr got 25 M in 2017, Cousins got 28 M this year, next one will be in about the 30-31 M range, Goff's (if he is extended in 2020) will be the 33-34 M range (unless they do it sooner).

The problem with Donald is that there's really only 4 players right now in his category--Watt, Von MIller, Mack, and him. So what should a guy in that category be getting in 2018?

Rams will try to limit the envelope every bit as much as Donald will try to push it. But where is a fair deal in that? It's as equally possible to offer something too low as it is to demand something too high, since there are fewer clear benchmarks to go by, which is not the case with qb or WR (Cooks was going to get around 16 M signing in 2018 and that was just a given).

IF the figures tossed around were even partly true, I thought 21 M was too low the minute I heard it, just as I thought that 25 M was too high. I always said both things were the case or that's how it seemed to me. But that's just negotiating. You begin low/high and then work with it till it's done.

It's no accident that Mack's thing is seen as being just as challenging. And Von Miller threatened to hold out before his deal came through (Denver then doubled the guarantees).

,,,

I'm guessing AD would be fine with something in the $21-23M range as long as the guaranteed money was $80M+ range.

I can see the biggest hang ups right now being length and g-money

One thing we all have to remember was Suh was an unrestricted free agent when he got that monster deal. Donald and Mack are not in that situation.

In fact, AD/Rams negotiations are so fun and amicable...
