And would it make sense to? It seems like the situation is at an impasse. I heard or read somewhere that the Rams could possibly place the franchise tag on him for a third year and keep him until he turns 31. I think the Rams probably have a fair offer on the table but they are not going to pay Donald QB money.

If it gets to this after the season, and the Rams tag him, what is to prevent him from sitting out and demanding a trade?

* if he does that the tag still counts against the cap

* if he does that the Rams have both the cap hit and no Donald and nothing in return for him, unless they trade him

* star players who demand trades tend to get traded. Either way I don't think the Rams are dumb enough to take a cap hit for a player they also don't trade and so get nothing for him

The incentive for a trade on AD's part is that the tag amount for a DT is a lowball amount compared to his market value as a top defender in the league. In 2019 that would be the difference between (probably) around 15 M v. somewhere north of 20 M, maybe as much as 24 M.

Yes the situation may be an impasse but we do not know WHY it is. Is it because of Donald? Is it because of the Rams? Is it both? Is it neither?

Speaking for myself, I don't assume we know WHAT it is. We just do not have enough info. ,

...

Where to start?

1) What’s to prevent him from sitting out, you ask? Common sense? The desire not to cost himself net income? ‘Cause that’s exactly what would happen.

2) Rams can afford to eat the $15 million cap hit, if necessary, to set a precedent. Besides, AD won’t sit for very danged long as it would cost him a million dollars a game and could never be recouped. IOW, the Rams would never have to eat the whole $15 million.

3) I don’t think that it’s the Rams that are being dumb here if AD refuses to extend. Rams have all the leverage here and they can still win games without AD given these coaches and this roster. Tell me again, how many TD’s did AD score last year? The Rams shouldn’t let the tail wag the dog. Ever...

I’ll say it again. AD is getting some terrible advice from his agent. Malpractice bad advice, if you ask me.
