he won't get that money next year.

The market has dropped on safeties...ZN thinks it temporary...but I don't.

Joyner realized there was no way he was going to get $11 million a year going forward...at best I would say $9 million.

He'll play it out and he'll be gone.

i agree he's gone after this year and that he knows he's getting more this year under the tag than otherwise available to him.

i have to believe the tag has drawn attention to him from around the league. I suspect he'll be the biggest beneficiary of the defensive backfield and line additions this off season when the regular season transpires and will have a big season. between the league attention and a big season the rams won't be able to afford him given the other priorities. I don't know if the safety market is temporarily or permanently depressed but i expect lj to get more next year than we should've gotten him for before the tag.

I would've been happy if the fo could have signed him to a 4 year deal worth 8 to 9m a year before we got to tagging season. what i don't understand is : you don't have to be a fortune teller to see this coming. why don't they get on these things sooner? are they concerned with injury or suspension risks causing the fo to wait until the last minute? do players agents force a game of chicken dragging things out? are they actually talking in earnest all along and we just don't hear about it? this has confused me for years, not just lj's situation.

If it's true, as you guys seem to be assuming, that t he safety market collapsed, then why would Joyner leave next year? He leaves only if he gets significantly more than the Rams will pay, but if the market collapsed, that can't happen. But I don;t think it did collapse, meaning I don't think the 2017 freeze on free agent safeties has anything to do with football reasons. I think this was an artificial non-football thing relevant only this year. I think he leaves next year because the artificial restraints on the safety market will be gone. It will be back to normal.
