One problem with the tag is that it is alienating
Player wants guaranteed money, upfront money, and the big payoff
I understand that
So, you have a guy who is well compensated for a year or two, but by and large it appears that tagged players end up on the free agent market
With a number of other key players to get under contract next year, and as pointed out by well versed posters here, Joyner is unlikely to find the numbers he'd prefer to stay with the Rams going into 2019. Also, the posts regarding whether they overpaid for LaMarcus considering the market price for safeties may or may not be a worthy topic.
I imagine that both sides now acknowledge that if the safety has another remarkable year, he ought to get a juicy payday from it.
What happens if he has more of an average 2018?
As of now, I believe the hunt for a college player to take his spot is on.
There are a couple of players I think would make excellent early selections, but this is where a draft expert in the form of Alyo really can be of such superb insight. Alyo has an exceptional eye for talent, especially enjoys the safety spot, and I am looking forward to seeing where he believes the value is there.
The only spots that might take a higher priority than this one would be left tackle, and perhaps WR, if once again, the Rams can't retain their "X" in Cook.
