Rob Ninkovich of the Patriots was timed at 4.93. He was a mainstay at SSLB for the Pats.
Yes, that's a little faster that 5.00, but nearly indistinguishable. Besides, those numbers can vary day to day by a few hundredths and then there is the issue of quickness versus 40 speed, and the issue of reaction to the ball, play recognition, assignment faithfulness, instincts, and just plain playing good football.
Ninkovich was the epitome of what it means to be a really good football player versus checking all the H/W/S boxes.
Way too early to say much about Lawler.
But if Wade has him practicing with the 1's this early, and he's getting high marks, then who knows? Maybe Wade has found another Ninkovich. If so, a couple of years from now nobody will even bring up his 40 time.
