The term "franchise quarterback" is used all the time but does everyone view the definition in the same way? Not sure the question can be answered without everyone using the same definition of what a "franchise quarterback" is.

A starting caliber qb who is viewed as physically talented for the position and is a guy you intend to keep and build around.

So for example I would not see Keenum as fitting that. He's more of a #2 caliber qb who was good enough to come in as a hired gun.

Goff IMO is already that.

Mohames was drafted to be that but we don't know yet.

"Franchise qb" is not the same concept as "elite qb"---elite is a more selective category. All elite qbs are also franchise qbs but not all franchise qbs are elite.

...

For me, a QB a team "intends to keep and build around" is a solid definition. That he is a starting-caliber QB is pretty clearly implied in that. Why do you include "physically talented."? Presumably, a guy a team wants to build around is also someone they consider "physically talented," but why do you think that deserves special mention?
