Then when they don't get anything done they can say "hey we tried!!"

How is this shade?
What more can the Rams do? We already know they offered him the most money last season when he had two years left on his contract. The ball is entirely in AD's court. He wants to be a free agent. Not because he wants to leave but because he wants other players and other teams to reset the market.

It is clear that there really isn't a price that is going to matter this year. Next years number will be better. If the Rams make an offer based on next years assumed market that will simply drive up AD's price for next year. Next year they will go to the table and say that the offer the Rams made in 2018 was the market at that point. Then they will ask them to go higher due to inflation.

That is negotiations. We knew how this would go when they held out due to the him over performing his contract and turning down a massive pay increase. It's a dance they have been leading for years now.

We don't know what the Rams offered. We don't know what Donald is asking. We do know that the DT market, especially for a player of AD's caliber, will be in excess of 20 M. Did the Rams offer that? Do you know?

We also know that the Rams themselves said it was trickier to structure a deal 2 years away from free agency (last year) versus this year. That has to do with how much is structured to go in the current year, v. how much goes into the much more cap free 2nd year.

Do you know that the Rams saying structure was an issue is a lie, or the truth, or just part of the story, or the whole story?

Anyone who draws conclusions NOW is doing it on their own. It's certainly not based on anything real or concrete. There's no evidence either way.
