As great as a coach McVay is, he used Watkins wrong. He should get a high volume of underneath stuff where he can use him strong body and good hands in traffic and run after the catch.

However, the Rams had Kupp and Woods for that role.. I think McVay likes everybody to fit in a certain role and restricts them. Watkins role was to run deep and clear out space and catch an occasional deep ball.

That's hard to argue but I'd wager against it. McVay is too smart to have one role. I truly believe there was more to the Watkins situation than we know. Perhaps his oft injured plant foot gave him issues. Maybe Watkins just never got the play book. No matter what there clearly wasn't trust in him doing much except run. Not from Goff or McVay. A full off-season and a redo will do Watkins some good
