It sure wasn't lack athletic ability or speed. And I think he was actually a pretty tough guy for his size and had a good attitude. But I don't know, something never clicked with him. He wanted to juke his way to big plays every time and after a while defenders just sort of stood around and let him and waited for him to tire himself out...
Performance wise, he wasn't a total washout. If he'd been a late 3rd round pick (80th instead of 8th...) we'd have thought he performed pretty well 2013-2016. But he was FootballOutsiders' lowest ranked WR in both 2015 and 2016 and over his five seasons he was 96th among skill players in
Approximate Value on Pro Football Reference.
They never should have traded up for him and they sure should not have given him the 4-year extension. Didn't hurt them in the end but it sure would have been easier had they just given him his 2017 5th year option. I hope he has some success as a backup RB in Dallas.
