Reality check...

April 29, 2018 04:22AM
What percentage of picks drafted in the late 3rd round or later started for their teams as a rookie of the past 5 years?

Then add on top of that that this is a good team that will not just toss out guys if they're not ready like a bad team may do.

Chances are we get one of these guys to start for the majority of the season, and I have no idea who will rise up to the challenge.

Long term maybe we get 3 starters out of the bunch of them and that's optimistic.

The last 5 years the Rams picked 28 players in the late 3rd round or later, 3 of them started at least 5 games as rookies. Gaines, JJohnson, and Stacy.

Thats almost 11%. Based on this sample size, we should expect at most 1 starter out of the 10 picks.

Here are the 28 guys listed in order of their draft position:

89 Sean Mannion
91 John Johnson
92 Stedman Bailey
110 Tyler Higbee
110 Maurice Alexander
113 Barrett Jones
117 Josh Reynolds
117 Pharoh Cooper
119 Andrew Donnal
125 Samson Ebukam
149 Brandon McGee
160 Zac Stacy
177 Temarrick Hemingway
188 E.J. Gaines
189 Tanzel Smart
190 Josh Forrest
201 Bud Sasser
206 Sam Rogers
206 Mike Thomas
214 Garrett Gilbert
215 Cody Wichmann
224 Bryce Hager
226 Mitchell Van Dyk
227 Martin Ifedi
234 Ejuan Price
241 C.B. Bryant
249 Michael Sam
250 Demetrius Rhaney

Yeah, sure I won't argue that 4 is possible

max310April 29, 2018 04:57AM

Isn't it great to have a draft that focuses on backups for a change?
