I agree that the cupboard is far from bear at LB and that we have a lot of talent at that position.
Compared to the other position groups on the team LB group is less proven with only Barron truly proven.
Young vets Longcare and Wilson have seen a lot of time and are young vets that are talented and hopefully ready to step up.
Littleton and Samson E. were special team standouts and both got time last year and played really well. With good coaching and another offseason getting bigger, stronger and faster. It is not a reach to expect both to be ready for prime time.
Hager has been another special teams standout and and a backup for a few years and has the instincts to be contribute
So yes we have talent at this position it just is not as proven as elsewhere.
However when the 3rd round comes and if there is a group of players with similar value and one happens to be a LB pass rusher I would expect that we would pick that guy. However if there is a player at another position that clearly stands out above the others I could see us taking that player regardless of position.
WR, CB and QB are probably the least needed positions and a pick at WR/CB even in the 3rd round might have trouble making the team. But S, OL, TE, LB and even DL can all use depth and the 3rd and 4th rounders should have a decent chance 50/50 of making the team. With those odds it would not be a surprise to see us trade a trade up using the 4th rounders or a trade out of this year in return for a higher pick next year.
