There actually could be two winners....which i think is the case.

I think the whole premise is silly, because they are evaluating the trade based on how successful the drafted players turn out. But different teams could (and would) take the exact same trade and doing something completely different with it. And so the trade itself hasn't changed -- only the players selected have changed.

For example, many have said the Dickerson trade was bad because of the poor players the Rams selected. But it wasn't the trade that was bad in terms of draft compensation -- 3 firsts and 3 seconds and a couple of players (one of whom, Bell, went to the pro bowl). Though I personally opposed the trade, the draft compensation was very good. The fact that the Rams blew the picks didn't make the trade itself worse.

But if you want to use that argument with respect to the Goff trade, I would agree that it appears both teams did well by it.
