Browns' GM just lost his job for doing that. He outsmarted himself wrt the QBs.
Now, had he done what you suggest then picked Dak in round 2 he'd look like a genius and might still have his job. But the truth is while nobody knows how these guys are going to pan out, you're much more unlikely to find one outside the high picks. In 2016 there were a lot of experts knocking Goff & Wentz and how they weren't as good of prospects as Winston and Mariota, that neither were the best player at 1 and 2, but once the Rams and Eagles moved up it became clear QBs were the picks and both had profound franchise impact.
I think Darnold is going to be elite. He's tough mentally, a hard worker, has all the required talent, and will almost surely go one overall. Rosen has been overnuked IMO. Kind of like teams disregarding Wentz's success due to level of competition. People don't realize he played for a Fish-like head coach with a defensive bent, and I think he could easily end up being the best QB from this draft if he ends up with a good staff and situation. NY is that kind of situation, but honestly I hope you're right because I detest NY teams in general and prefer to see them suffer.
We'll have to revisit this some years down the road. But I suspect your dislike of so many of this class' QBs is going to be a very entertaining take five years from now when it ends up being one of the best QB drafts in many years. I really think this QB class is special.
