You know, every leader makes mistakes. Not all FO moves will pay off.
But what I really appreciate is this FO's commitment to do everything it can to reach the team's highest ceiling.
Last year was a wonderful return to relevance and included some achievement. Then we lost, and that was ... understandable.
But then ... what comes next? in general, people tend to project from last year to this. People expect another good year and some improvement. And I think they would expect that even had we stood pat with our roster.
But it doesn't work that way. Teams are always either improving or declining. It is so easy for a pop-up team from last year to sink back down. Happens all the time in this league.
Our FO today seems to get that. The only way up and forward is to significantly address roster limitations. To have another good year, this FO went aggressive.
I really like that. I dunno if all of these moves will work. Maybe some will fall flat. Maybe some will hurt the team for a couple of years in the future. Who knows?
But for me, it is a wonderful thing to see your FO making aggressive moves to reach high. Remember--most of the actual front office includes guys who have accepted mediocrity and worse for decades.
If these moves don't work, I'll be frustrated and saddened. I may decide that some hindsight criticisms are valid.
But I will always honor the commitment this bunch made in 2017 and 2018 to reach for glory. It's a good thing to see.
