two of the hybrid Lbers who had career years in 2015...Barron had 18.5 stuffs and has had only 12 since. Buchanan had 10.5 in 2015 and has not matched his 2015 total in last 2 years. Stats don't mean everything but sometimes they do quantify what is on film. Barron did pick off three balls and defensed one other for a total of 4 passes defenses, but his big plays against the run are way down. Again, this is the base defense and not he nickel.
In the nickel, it's an advantage in having a former DB playing LBer, all of his INTs in 2017 were from nickel. But the problem is if they run versus the nickel and we had a converted safety at MO and a converted OLBer as the MIKE and it hurt the run defense.
So, having a guy outside the formation some, where he made 19 negative plays in 2015 is worth discussing.
Here is a play from playoff game, with what I think are the gap assignments. How do you think Barron did? He needs to take on block with proper shoulder and not let FB wash him too far out...
