I've heard many media types start talking about how "trades are back". I think they're right.
Take Cooks for instance. What WR is there that the Rams would get at 23 that could rival Cooks? What player might be there that would contribute more?
But even that is pure speculation because whoever you pick, despite all the evaluation, history says you have only a 50/50 chance of getting it right.
You have a 100% chance of getting it right when you give that pick to another team in exchange for a proven guy like Cooks. Not only that, but the guy will contribute instantly because he's a vet. And in the case of Cooks, you're getting a guy that's no more than a year older than most of the guys you might draft.
What you lose is that Cooks is going to cost a whole lot more than that 23rd pick.
I like what Les has done with the draft picks. Who says you have to spend them on college players? Why not spend some on young proven vets?
Think about it. Do the Rams have to wonder what they're getting in Talib? In Peters? In Suh? And now in Cooks? Heck no. They're getting proven All-Pros and elite players.
That's a big deal.
