I, for one, am both surprised and satisfied with the Cooks trade.
I'm surprised because I didn't see it coming. I'm satisfied because I absolutely believe Cooks is a far more accomplished WR than Watkins, and because he's better than any player the Rams could have picked up at 23.
But, wow, the Rams moves are just impossible to predict. Of the 4 major moves for players they have made, I did wonder out loud about acquiring Talib before it happened. But the others? Not a clue.
So this just says that no matter what we all might think, the Rams have a clear idea of what they want to do that doesn't necessarily reflect what the majority of us are speculating, and they are REALLY good at keeping their thoughts to themselves.
I also feel like any thought that the Rams "lost" Watkins needs to be put to rest. Clearly the Rams set a lower value on Watkins. They were OK with him, but only at a certain level of contract. We've argued around here about who is responsible for Watkins relatively low output; I think McVay and Snead declared whose shoulders that blame falls on.
So why Cooks? Speed. Hands. Route running. Versatility. Youth. McVay now has 3 young, superb, reliable WRs that can line up pretty much anywhere. I'm not sure you can label any of them "elite", including Cooks. But you don't need elite WRs to win Championships. Just a stable of very good.
Well said Rock!
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
