There was nothing from watching him that he is more. An occasional flash, but not much other than that. Of course, he didn't get much playing time so too soon to tell, but the probability of him being like these guys is very high and lesser than he would be productive like Kupp or Curtis or Holt. We could tell Kupp was the real deal in his very first preseason game so odds are against him being what Watkins could provide.
The bottom line is that Kupp looked so good that the Rams chose to invest the money in other areas instead of in Watkins. I much rather the Rams use Austin than Reynolds with the extra playing time. I think he could provide some run after the catch yards and also be somebody who could fill the role of running deep just to clear out space.
