People do both. It doesn't look like it's impacted his game at all. He's a good safety. As for a place on the team: The Rams lost Cody Davis. They need a third safety, and one who can start if needbe. He'd also give them added flexibility, because they could move Joyner to the slot when they play extra DBs.
IMO, it would be a wise move.
