I'll admit I sort of don't see the point.. But to me this doesn't even guarantee him a 2018 roster spot. Still could get traded, released, etc. Maybe this is just about making him a more attractive trade target? I don't know...
But assuming he IS on the team this year, I guess it's.....fine.... I mean, he is good at taking handoffs and end-arounds, etc. Definitely. And maybe, MAYBE they can coach him up further now that he's healthy and will be in OTAs and camp and develop a package of plays he can do in the passing game. It would be nice. Having incentive-based salary and knowing he'll be an UFA in 2019 could be a strong motivator.
He won't get his punt return job back which is good... So I don't know, he's sort of WR5/RB3 in this offense.
I still would have just released him.
