Really I think the Niners as being nearly infallible began with Chris Berman and ESPN.
It's hard for me to quite grasp why, even during the long dry spells, the Niners are so venerated.
I do think the Niners are on the rise. But even with a good QB in Jimmy G I don't think they are quite there yet. Reeling off those 5 wins to end the year were impressive; but they knew it counted for nothing. There was no pressure; nothing they did would do anything but determine draft position. And who had book on Jimmy G? Well, they do now.
I'm not raining on them. I do think that probably in 2019 the Niners and the Rams may be the class of the NFC West. We'll see. But I think the Rams are solid across the board and only need some very attainable help here or there, and a little depth insurance on the Oline to be true Superbowl contenders.
