Several reasons I believe Sammy is as good as gone
1. While I suspect we will give him a pretty good offer, some other team like the Bears is probably going to offer him just under Julio Jones $$.
2. There is something that is very enticing about another team wine and dining you. It turns their heads, makes them feel very wanted, enough that they forget things like "this team doesn't have a decent QB to throw to you."
3. And this is my biggest issue - other teams are going to point out his lack of targets in McVay's offense and appeal to his ego saying that he will never be a Calvin Johnson in Mcvay's spread it around offense.
4. There really are practically no decent FA receivers this year, again pushing his price up.
What do the Rams have to offer? A great work environment on an up and coming team with a young QB and HC that could be a contending teams for years. Plus Southern California, which isn't nothing. But no guarantee he will even be the top WR.
I just don't think he comes back unless we throw more money than is smart at him.
I do think his value to the Rams last year was considerably more than his stats indicate. He did draw attention from top CBs, was not a good but a GREAT downfield blocker, and he scored TDs.
On the other hand, half of his TDs were all on the same quick slant play at the goal line, and I do think another tall, physical receiver can learn to run that route.
