It's easy to forget that there were some special circumstances that brought Wade here.
1) His daughter lives in LA. As an old guy with kids and grandkids, I can tell you that living near them matters more and more.
2) Wade rules the D. McVay made no bones about it that it would be kinda dumb to hire one the best D coaches in the history of the game, and then try to tell him what to do. McVay gave Wade the D lock, stock, and barrel, so he doesn't have to fight anyone to do what he wants to do.
As long as Wade wants to coach, the D is his. That's a nice way to go on the tail end of a long career.
Every year the D may not be great; but every year it will be no worse than good under Phillips.
