It wasn't just the stagnation that occurred, it's primarily the arrogance and hubris with which that mediocrity was delivered. If Fisher hadn't been a smug, stubborn, know-it-all, ass in the process of perennially going 7-9 on top of never taking blame for his shortcomings I think many would be far less critical of him and less inclined to slam him now when he's down.
