Yeah, not a good look seeing Goff lose his QB coach and OC after ONE year in which Goff went from bust to pro bowl


Obviously McVay thinks we don't need him or he would never have let him go.....hope he is right.

I thought a coach had to release a staff member if they had a job opportunity elsewhere and wanted to go, no matter how much the HC may have needed him and wanted to retain him. So even if McVay felt he really needed LeFleur, he couldn't keep him if LeFleur had a job opportunity and wanted to go to a different team. Is that not correct?

Nevermind. I found the answer.

You can't hire a coach away from another team if it's a lateral move. You can only hire a contracted coach away if he'll receive a promotion.

Lateral moves are only permitted if both teams agree.

So, in LeFleur's case, McVay didn't have to let him go.
