ESPN, NFLN, etc. started to say it with the NYG (McAdoo) fire in Dec.
With that said, there is no "next McVay". How many teams have the balls to hire a 30 year old coach, and how many 30 yr olds are competent and experienced enough to even interview for a HC position?
We struck lighting in a bottle.
Thank God.

Talking heads doing it on tv does not mean actual NFL execs were doing it.
Usually in a big news frenzy like coaching hires time, there's at least somebody who asks real NFL execs, often off the record, what they think of things. That to me would be evidence.
Or if a couple of your media guys said "what I am hearing from people in the league is" or something like that.
Instead what you cite there is the very thing I questioned---talk without evidence.
The sports media is better at some things than others, and of course it;s not a homogenous entity, so there are better and worse parts of it.
BUT a lot of times you hear media guys going off on speculations about what teams are thinking and it has no basis in reality whatsoever.
I am suggesting this is one of those times.
The McAdoo firing is a good example. They hired Shurmur. An experienced, been there 47 year old guy with a long resume who has been through ups and downs and has been a head coach twice before (once as an interim). That's pretty un-McVay. So again were the people saying earlier on that a McVay type was possible with the Giants just winging it and offering up speculation? Chances are yes.
In terms of what you say about McVay himself, that he is a great and unique hire, I completely agree.
