I be interested in seeing a study on how NFL players taking recreational drugs impacts performance and what are the signs of players that take them.
The short-term effects of weed include:
High, euphoria
Relaxed state, sleepiness
Dry mouth
Increased appetite
Short-term memory loss
Impaired judgment
Affects verbal skills
Distorts perception
Slowed coordination
hmmm where have I seen that
Many short term effects of alcohol are the same as the ones you highlight. So that means 2 things. 1. don't play while drinking, and 2. if you like to drink do it in moderation.
Do you honestly believe a player who has a couple of beers during the week will have longterm distorted perception and longterm slowed coordination? Obviously you shouldn't think that, it would be a bad leap in logic. Well. Same thing with weed.
Besides, let's pretend for a minute that moderate use of weed DOES cause longerm damage to coordination and perception. If so (it;s not so, we're pretending, so again if so) then it's self-curing. Because coaches would notice uncoordinated players who couldn't see things right. They would get cut. For that alone.
And the disclaimer. I am not a user. This is all just being objective.
When I drink, I can be uncoordinated and not see right. But that's only at the time I am drinking and that does NOT mean I have done longterm damage to my nervous system. I would have to be a heavy habitual every day of the week drinker before that happened. Again...same with weed.
