Faulk had one of the greatest seasons in NFL history the year before he joined the Rams. 3 time Pro Bowler before joining the Rams.
Faulk was a Tiki Barber/Warrick Dunn type player. A pro bowl player, but not a legendary player.
going from a 4.0 yards per carry player to a 5.5 yards per carry is eye opening. There are dozens of 4.0 yards per carry player, but rarely do you see a 5.5 yards per carry player. He went from a 10 touchdown type player that didn't run tough in space, to one of the best goal line runners in the game and boosted that total over 20. His total yardage increased to legendary status.

Bold means best in the league when you open it up. It all is in the Martz time. In fact, Faulk had a Sammy Watkins type of year in where he had 587 yards in 13 games and a 3.0 yards per carry. Or maybe Gurley from last season. I think when you see Gurley this year with McVay, you see what Martz did for Faulk back in 1999.
Kurt Warner got cut from the Packers. Had a hard time making a NFL Roster. Was on the scout team. He works with Martz for a few months and his entire game approached. How he prepares, how he sees the field, how he knows what is going to happen before the play starts. His fundamentals. I don't want to take away what Warner did because ultimately it has to be in a person to pull it out. But no Martz, there is nobody to go find that specialness to pull out the greatness. Simply put: He is Goff from last season instead of Goff from this season.
Isaac Bruce was a superstar before Martz ever got there. His best season happened in 1995 and he followed it up with another monster season in 1996.
You got that right. Martz was Bruce's WR coach and that common element of excellence is shown again. What better way to start your NFL career other than to be paired up daily with the best offensive coach in NFL History.
Bruce and Holt are 2 of the greatest overachievers in NFL History. Not that big, not extraorginary athletic, but 2 of the best route runners in NFL history. 2 guys that come prepared and work on their craft. More overachieving and players playing better for Martz than they would for other coaches.
McVay's success really is very parallel with Mike Martz this year, taking players from previous seasons that didn't do as well and upper their games.
And I am so glad it happened, because we can go back and see the before and after so we understand the cause and effect Martz had on the superbowl team.
Simply out: Martz is the best thing that ever happened to the Rams and was the catalyst for the one and only one superbowl win.
Remember a quarter of a century of no playoffs other than the 5 years Martz led the team to the playoffs. 2 superbowls,
