It didn't work out but since time really wa NOT an element and the panthers needed a touchdown the opportunity to close out the game upside was worth the field,position sacrificed. If the saints punt they still have to stop them.
If the panthers just needed a field goal than field position more important and I wouldn't do it. In this situation, the saints had to stop them from getting a Td and time wasn't a factor so going for it had a huge upside and the only downside was the panthers had to get 1 or 2 more first downs
