Because the coaches know more than we do and I suppose they think his positives outweigh the negatives. But as far as OLB, in a 3-4 they are really defensive ends on 2 legs. The strong-side OLB does a bit more coverage but neither cover a lot.
So, AO is does not possess DE skills and cannot play there.
