2) while overall he is good in the run game (I'm aware that he's a league leader in run stops), definite weaknesses show up on tape. He sometimes gets engulfed due to his size and he sometimes is out of position. Those weaknesses somewhat offset the run stops.
That you misremembered the play, it doesn't really matter.
More importantly to ME we are highlighting the fact that its a "team" issue not necessarily an individual issue on the breakouts.
Indulge ME here for a minute.
What might the result have been on some of the many run stops he made, had he missed?
Some could have been catastrophic, NO?
Conversely can YOU quantify how many times he got either engulfed or was out of position?
We CAN on his run stops!
Look at the flow of the front on that long run.
It always starts upfront.
Point taken on it being a team issue. I don't disagree...
And yeah if he doesn't get the run stops maybe some of the results would have been catastrophic.
So far we're on the same page. However, getting engulfed or being out of position is a contribution to the team issue.
And contrary to your implication, it CAN be quantified. And he does his fair share. It may not be as crystal clear quantifying it as measuring run stops but it's not an impossible task. I don't know if anyone quantifies it besides that publication you dislike. LoL.
Anyway, my overall point stated succinctly is, IMO, he's not as bad as popular opinion holds in coverage and he's not quite as great in run support as is commonly believed.
But my criticism of him shouldn't be taken to mean that I don't like him as a player.
