Kinda like dominoes falling one after another.
For example, Whit and Sully will surely benefit from rest.
But that almost requires pulling Goff due to protection concerns.
And THAT makes it probably much more difficult for Gurley to thrive and get his rushing title, 20 TD’s, and possible MVP award.
Also, Goff’s absence makes it more unlikely that Woods or Kupp get their 1000 yards.
Quite a significant downstream effect from the “simple” decision to rest Whit and Sully, huh?
It’s admirable that the Rams are willing to pay reasonable achievement incentive bonuses, but it’s not the same as the actual achievements and league wide recognition that the players might enjoy.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ve made peace with this decision. It’s the right decision to enhance playoff success, I think.
I’m only trying to illustrate how one initial decision has a ripple effect on so many other players. And not a few fans.
I admire Gurley for taking his public stance on this. And I certainly admire McVay’s ability to impart the Big Picture to his players. Pretty classy all the way around.
