Objectives (acccording to ESPN [
www.espn.com])
1.) rest Whitworth, Sullivan, Goff, Gurley, Ogletree, Barron to the extend possible
2.) limit the reps for: Watkins, Woods, Donald, Brockers, Quinn, Barwin, TruJohnson, Joyner, Saffold
Here's a way to get that done:
1.) Promote Ejuan Price from the practice squad to replace Longacre
2.) Game day inactives: Lucas (OT), Dunbar (RB ), Barron (ILB ), Ogletree (ILB ), Price (OLB ), I Johnson (DB ), Edebali (OLB )
3.) The 46-man game-day roster:
WR: start Kupp, Cooper, Reynolds; mix in Watkins, Woods, Thomas, Austin
TE: the usual rotation of Higbee, Everett, Carrier
OL: I don't think the Rams have enough OL to give both Whitworth and Sullivan the day off. So start with Williams-Blythe-Sullivan-Brown-Havenstein for the first half, then go with Williams-Saffold-Blythe-Brown-Havenstein the second half. Dress Whitworth, but don't play him. This gives Whitworth the day off and gives both Saffold and Sullivan a half game off. (Note: 7 OL on the final 46)
QB: start Mannion, dress Goff, too. (Hey, ya gotta have 2 QBs on game day & they're the only two the Rams have ...)
RB: start Brown, play Davis. Maybe Austin, too. Dress Gurley, but don't play him.
DL: start Westbrooks, Walker, Smart; use Fox, Brockers, and Donald as backups
OLB: start Thompson & Ebukam; use Quinn & Barwin as backups
ILB: start Hagar and Littleton; use Lynch as their backup
CB: start Robey-Coleman & Hill; use TruJo and Peterson as backups
S: start JJohnson III and Christian; use Joyner & Countess as backups
Special teams: Hecker, Ficken, McQuaide
Note: This option gives the Rams a ton of flexibility. They could still put their entire regular offense on the field if they wanted to. They could also field their entire starting defense (except for Barron and Ogletree) if they wanted to.
