There are still too many possibilities. The only certainty today is that Philly is the #1 seed. Everyone else is still playing to either get in (Atlanta and Seahags) or for seeding (Rams, Vikings, Saints and Panthers.)
Rams - Win and they secure #3 seed. Lose and they are #4 seed, unless both Saints and Panthers lose, then they still are #3 seed.
Vikings - Win and they secure #2 seed. Lose with a Saints loss, Panthers win and a Rams loss, they drop to #3 seed (Panthers move to the #2 seed.)
Atlanta - Can only qualify as #6 seed win either a win, or a loss and Seahags loss.
Seahags - Can only qualify as #6 seed with a win and Atlanta loss.
Saints - Guaranteed at least a #5 seed. Win and a Rams loss, they are #3 seed. Win and a Rams win, they are #4 seed. Lose and a Panthers win and they are a #5 seed (and if the Rams lose as well, play in LA in Round 1.) Lose and a Panthers loss, and they are a #4 seed.
Panthers - Guaranteed at least a #5 seed. Can still be the #2 seed (see Vikings above.) Win and Saints lose, they are #3 seed with a Rams loss and a #4 seed with a Rams win. Get #5 seed if the Saints win.
I think that covers all the possibilities except for ties, but I can’t guarantee that. The point of the exercise is that there are too many possibile outcomes, and they’ll all be unknown because everyone is playing at the same time. Therefore, the decision to rest players, or not, must be based on the fact that we’re in and it doesn’t matter who we play or where, just that we have a fully healthy, rested juggernaut ready to lay a beating on anyone who steps into The Coliseum!!
And the idea of playing for the #4 seed to get the Eagles. Couldn’t the Seahags or Falcons go into Carolina or New Orleans and win in Round 1? If that happens, they go to Philly in Round 2, and the #4/#5 winner plays the #2 seed, likely the Vikings. So playing for the #4 seed does not guarantee the Nick Foles-led Eagles in the Divisional Round.
Personally, I’d like to see them pound the Whiners into submission, and then step on their throats a little harder! However, this is business, not personal, so I’ll just trust my coach to do the right thing.
GO RAMS!!
