I don't want to minimize the loss of GZ. This hurts. It hurts team confidence if nothing else because the team knows that it has points if the offense can crack the 35 yard line. The thing is, GZ was having a career year.
What I think matters in GZ's replacement is that 1) He can kick it deep into the end zone, 2) is accurate enough on short kicks and PATs, and 3) has a strong enough leg to at least give the guy a shot at a desperate last second FA from way out to tie or win the game.
Apparently Ficker has kicked in a number of NFL pre-season games and held his own. Nothing special, but nothing terrible. That's about the best you can do at this time of year to acquire a Kicker in an emergency.
