There are only so many people who love 'the old girl'. For the new generation of fans and those just discovering the team all they see is an expensive ticket for an old stadium with no good tailgate parking right by the field and no game day experiential stuff.
I get it, it doesn't matter to the people who've loved this team since we were kids, but as you can see every Sunday, there aren't enough of us to fill the place up.
The parking is the biggest issue the coliseum has... there are only three lots that allow tailgating. (Thank God I am lucky enough this year to have a Lot 2 pass)
I think people without parking just don't even bother trying to go to the games especially after the news reports of how bad it was last year with all the private lots charging $100 to park.
I pay $60 a game for parking for Lot 2..... people try to sell those passes on stubhub for $200 on up.....for parking!!????
The Rams do offer a Fan Zone on the east side of the stadium that is pretty nice set up for people who don't have tailgate parking with food and beer$, but other then that it is a no frills stadium for the most part....
Last year it was a mess with those 80,000+ crowds....
Although, it makes for horrible optics, thankfully the Rams did the right thing and cap the tickets available to 65,000....it's nice being able to walk through the concourse and use the bathroom if you have to.
IMO there was only about 30,000 hard core Rams fans left in LA by the time they moved back and most of them have season tickets...the rest of the crowd is pretty young and obviously new to the Rams fan thing or visiting teams fans.
In a few years if the Rams keep playing like this, it will be sold out and rocking every game.....
In the meantime I'm going to enjoy the cheap tickets while I can, but I'm pretty excited about the new stadium that is for sure.
