And here's the thing. As you say, those who question his value keep getting proven correct, game after game.
It's not like he breaks out and has big games. He hasn't done that in a long time.
This offense we all love keeps chugging along without him ... unless you toss in some nebulous decoy effect which is almost impossible to quantify.
For 4.5 years, Ram fans have been predicting that he'll start producing any day now. Even this year, with all our other weapons, they keep saying, "Just wait. McV is going to ..." this or that.
And it never adds up to much. Over and over he just doesn't accomplish much. Each time that happens, it's another bit of evidence--the guy is not and will almost certainly never be anything more than the marginal value we've seen from him all along.
Yet people keep hoping and expecting ... something.
Well, they're down to decoy value and the occasional anguished wonderment at why our fine coaching staff somehow forgets to throw him the ball downfield.
At what point is the piled up evidence enough to end the debate? I dunno.
For some reason, this whole thing bugs me. The unreason of it ... to my eyes of course.
I keep swearing I'll quit going on about it. Time for me to go on the wagon again.
