Receivers are being missed at "an alarming rate".

This kind of forces me to pick between two competing viewpoints.

1. The Goff- viewpoint. Despite averaging 30 pts per game and Goff with a QB rating in the 90's, he is, in fact, incompetent. He is constantly missing receivers that other NFL QB's in this offense would easily see and hit.

The logical conclusion from that is that McVay and his OC have designed a well-nigh unstoppable offense. And that if Goff wasn't such a goof, if only he could hit these wide open receivers for big yards and TD's, that anyone should be able to hit, the Rams would be averaging more like 40 to 50 points per game. They'd probably be 9-1 or 10-0.

It's alarming! And we should probably be looking for a new QB.

or...

2. The Goff+ viewpoint. As valuable and appreciated as the microscopic exams of all our games are, where every possible missed opportunity is identified, it tends to lead some posters to hypercriticism, where only the mistakes are seen and discussed.

To have the Rams where they are, to be scoring as they are, to have a rating in the top 10 or so of NFL QB's, Goff must be doing a lot of things right for every thing that he does wrong.

Maybe generic NFL QB X could have seen a play that Goff didn't see. But on the other hand, maybe Goff is doing some things that generic NFL QB X could never do! Otherwise he, and the Rams, would be a lot closer to the bottom of the heap.

The 23 year old Goff, with less than one season in this offense, and 1.5 years from running a college air raid, is now achieving far beyond original expectations at this point. Pointing out mistakes is fair, but doing so without acknowledging his accomplishments is one-sided. If this is his improvement curve, then imagine what it will be like when he's 26+ and has had far more opportunities to read NFL defenses, and learn from his HC mentor.

It's NOT alarming at all. We've found our franchise QB. Try to enjoy winning seasons and 90+ QB ratings with patience as he continues to develop.

I think I choose #2.
