I'm sure someone posted this but I'm taking it a different direction....
The 'story'... Gurley, Woods, and Watkins all reached 20mph during the game Sunday. That's fast... that's very fast.. in uniform it's like space shuttle fast.
However, (knew I'd have one didn't you?)... more times than not when I see those speed demon offensive guys streaking for the end zone if you look just behind them you'll see a defensive player 'catching them'. Now that didn't happen, to my memory... with Gurley, Woods Or Watkins in the Giants game but then... I wasn't paying close attention... I was doing cartwheels in my living room.
But almost, (I can think of a VERY few exceptions), never is the speed of the "D" guys mentioned. I guess that makes sense... but when it happens I can't help thinking about the guy on offense, "Whoa, lucky he had a good lead" rather than "Wow is he fast".
So I am wondering, have always wondered... are the truly 'fast' players in football 'steered' toward "D".... starting perhaps very early in their football careers? - JamesJM
