Lets face it. The Rams passing game lacks the deep one, the bomb, the home run throw, the game changing take the top off the defense big play deep ball that every fan likes to see.
They should be better at this considering they have Sammy Watkins and Josh Reynolds on their roster but they are not. When they do finally have this as part of their attack they are going to be almost unstoppable.
What is the hang up? Why cannot an offensive genius like McVay get the deep ball to work in the Rams offense?
Grits
They're a bit above average actually.
Rams have hit on 36% of their passes over 21 yards. That's a pretty good completion percentage for that range.
It's rare that you find someone hitting 50% on those. Hitting over 50% is genuinely exceptional.
And in terms of percentage of attempts, they throw those a decent amount of the time, too. And once the connection with Watkins is more established, they'll probably increase their gains from this.
Let's put it this way. The Eagles have the 2nd ranked offense in the league.
Goff hits on more passes of 21 yards or more than Wentz does (36% for Goff v. 29% for Wentz).
And the Rams throw them nearly the same amount as the Eagles do (12.8% of total attempts for the Eagles v. 11.3% for the Rams).
